Frequently asked questions

Clear answers, including the limits.

Learn how the estimates work, how to use dietary examples safely, and when a calculator should give way to qualified individual care.

Calculator and estimates

How accurate is the macro calculator?

It is a useful population-based starting estimate, not a direct measurement. BMR equations, activity multipliers and food tracking all contain uncertainty. Compare the result with two to four weeks of consistent trend data.

Why do you show a calorie range?

Daily energy needs and food labels are not exact. A range communicates that uncertainty and makes normal day-to-day variation easier to accommodate.

Why does the calculator ask for an equation profile?

The Mifflin–St Jeor equation contains sex-based constants. The label makes clear that this is a physiological equation input, not a definition of gender identity.

Why did the calculator refuse to give me a target?

It withholds a target when inputs fall outside supported ranges, a loss goal conflicts with a low estimated BMI, the calorie result crosses its safety floor, or a balanced macro allocation is not possible. A warning is safer than silently printing an aggressive number.

Should I eat back calories from my watch?

Usually not automatically. The activity multiplier already includes activity, and wearable estimates can be imprecise. Adding them again may double-count expenditure. Use your real trend and training recovery to adjust.

Goals and food choices

Do I need to hit every macro every day?

No. Consistent averages and an overall adequate eating pattern matter more than exact daily numbers. Protein and calories can be useful anchors, while carbohydrate and fat can vary with training and preference.

Is a gluten-free or dairy-free diet healthier?

Not automatically. Restriction is appropriate for certain diagnosed conditions, allergies, intolerances, ethical choices or preferences. Removing foods without a reason can make variety and nutrient adequacy harder.

Can the sample day be used as a meal plan?

It is an educational structure, not an individualized diet. Portions are not prescribed because energy, culture, access, preferences and medical considerations vary.

Are the allergy filters a safety guarantee?

No. They describe broadly applicable examples only. Ingredients, manufacturing and cross-contamination can change, so you must verify labels and preparation practices.

Do I need supplements?

Most goals begin with adequate food, fluids, sleep and training. A supplement may be useful in specific situations, but it can carry contamination, interaction and dosing risks. Competitive athletes should use appropriately tested products and qualified advice.

Safety, privacy and professional help

Who should not use the calculator as a target?

People under 18; anyone pregnant or breastfeeding; people with an eating disorder or relevant history; people with a medical condition affecting nutrition; and people taking medication that affects weight or appetite should seek appropriately qualified care.

What symptoms mean I should stop pursuing a calorie deficit?

Persistent fatigue, dizziness, worsening performance, repeated injury or illness, menstrual changes, distress around food, bingeing or compensatory behaviour deserve prompt attention from a qualified professional.

Does FitnessNutritionPro store calculator data?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, and the site has no account system, calculator database or contact form. Privacy-first Cloudflare Web Analytics measures aggregate website usage without analytics cookies or browser storage; calculator inputs are not sent to it.

How do I find individualized help?

Look for a regulated dietitian or qualified healthcare professional whose scope includes your goal or condition. Competitive athletes may also benefit from a sports dietitian familiar with their sport and anti-doping requirements.
